With Thanksgiving upon us and hopefully bringing some level of dare I say, “normal”, now is a good time to go over some basic tips to keep your dog safe as family and friends come over to celebrate.
Before your guests arrive, if you have an anxious dog, or a dog who is on the wild side, I would recommend giving your dog a CBD or calming supplement thirty-forty five minutes before your guests arrive. This should help to calm them and take the edge off of any anxiety that they may have with strangers being in their territory.
Moving on to the arrival of guests to your homes. Dogs, as good as they may typically be when it comes to doors opening and closing, can get excited when new and different people are coming in and out of your home. Start by putting a gate in your doorway, or putting your dog in a bedroom while your guests are coming in and out. This will give you the peace of mind that your dog is safe and does not have the ability to dart out the door.
For the main event, the food—I would simply advise that no matter what lists you may see on the internet of Thanksgiving foods that are and are not safe for dogs, don’t give your dogs table food. Stick to what they are used to eating, to avoid any intestinal upset. While yes, some foods that you will serve at your Thanksgiving table are perfectly safe for pets, it is best to avoid them due to the various seasonings that are used during cooking.
This season is a time of giving thanks for all that we have in our lives—especially our pets, because who knows how we would have made it through the past two years without them! Be thankful for the companionship that they provide you, and do everything in your power to keep them safe and healthy this Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving, from you friends at Oh My Dog Holistic Pet Supplies!
